Heyo. My name is Elaine and I am the author of this blog and manage this website. I care deeply about the water, land, and food in Baker County. As part of the BVID, I work at the intersection of operations, conservation, research, and community education. My focus is not only on delivering reliable water to more than 40,000 acres of agricultural land, but on modernizing how we manage it through mapping, data, collaboration, and long-term planning. That means $$$ and partnerships. If I’m not running ditches in my busted pickup or working in the office, I am most likely writing grants and dreaming about all the things we could do with the money.
I believe water management should be transparent, science-informed, and rooted in local knowledge. That’s why I work closely with our ranchers and farmers, researchers, engineers, and federal partners while also investing in community education, especially for our young people. I will always believe that a compromise exists.
Our beautiful landscape tells a story. I care about making sure that story continues.
